Do I Need A Fire Door Inspection?

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (more commonly known as the RRO, or the Fire Safety Order 2005) makes it a legal requirement that all equipment and devices (including fire resisting doors and escape doors) are correctly installed and adequately maintained for them to be fit for purpose and to safeguard the safety of persons in your premises. The authorities have the power to enforce the Fire Safety Order and may serve a prosecution against those responsible when breaches are discovered. This is covered under Article 17 of the order.

To satisfy this, you must ensure your fire doors are in good working order, and appointing a competent person to inspect and certify them will satisfy this. By using a FDIS (Fire Door Inspection Scheme) registered contractor, you can be sure they are competent and experienced to carry this work out with the required due diligence.

Above it being a legal requirement - it may also one day save your life. Fire doors are a key aspect of passive fire protection, and help keep the escape routes of a building separate from fire to allow you enough time to escape to safety!
